Advent 1 — Advent Opening Prayer, from Liturgies Alive, Models of Celebration

Let us pray that we may be vigilant
to see the coming of our Lord among us:

         Our saving God,
long ago you sent your Son Jesus among us,
but we have been little aware of his presence
and we hide him even from others.

Wake us up, make us recognize him,
that he may be the light of our lives
and that eagerly we may lead people to him.
May he build up among us and with us
a world and a kingdom of peace and love
where we serve you in one another,
as we move forward in hope
to your home of endless joy and rest.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

As we light our first candle, we pray:
O come, O come, Emmanuel; bring us comfort and joy!

Advent 2 — Without End, by Rachel Hackenberg

         We are waiting
         for Love without end
         without conditions
         without violence
         without fear

         We are waiting
         for Justice without end
         without vengeance
         without hatred
         without lies

         We are waiting
         for Peace without end
         without displacement
         without borders
         without war

         We are waiting
         for Restoration without end
         without favoritism
         without fatigue
         without debt

         We are waiting
         for Joy without end
         without reservation
         without rebuke
         without want

         Holy Love, Divine Justice,
God of Peace, Restoration and Joy:
         we are waiting for you.
         We need you.

As we light the first and second candle, we pray:
O come, O come, Emmanuel; bring us comfort and joy!

Advent 3 — Advent Prayer, by Christine Sine

The coming of our Lord is near,
And we wait in joyful expectation,
         Draw close, Lord Jesus Christ,
Shed your light on all that is filled with darkness.
The coming of our Lord is near,
And we wait with hope filled hearts,
         Draw close, God’s beloved son,
Teach us the wonder of your all embracing love.

As we light the first, second, and third (rose) candle, we pray:
O come, O come, Emmanuel; bring us comfort and joy!

Advent 4 — Closing Prayer for Advent, by April Yamasaki

         O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
Go with us now into the world.
         We can begin again!
         Everything is about to change.
So make everything new. Make us new.
Reveal your glory in our lives and in the rhythms of our lives,
so that nothing will get in the way of your coming. Amen.

As we light all of our candles, we pray:
O come, O come, Emmanuel; bring us comfort and joy!
