Caring for Creation: Caring for our skies and the air

This week's Scripture:

Philippians 2:9-13>

Therefore God also highly exalted Jesus Christ and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. There- fore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Psalm 19:1-6

  1. 1  The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows God’s handiwork.

  2. 2  One day tells its tale to another, and one night imparts knowledge to another.

  3. 3  Although they have no words or language, and their voices are not heard,

  4. 4  Their sound has gone out into all lands, and their message to the ends of the world.

  5. 5  In the deep God has set a pavilion for the sun; it comes forth like a horse from the gate; it rejoices like a champion to run its course.

  6. 6  It goes forth from the uttermost edge of the heavens and runs about to the end of it again; nothing is hidden from its burning heat.

The Gospel: Mark 15:33-39

When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. At three o’clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah.” And someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” Then Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. Now when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”
