Summer Sunday School
by Evelyn Sherry

Summer Sunday School offers a wonderful opportunity to show children that leading the Christian life is what they are doing every day. One way to help them understand this is through an interesting book. This summer at St. Jude’s, beginning 6/22 at 10:30 am in Room 5, Because of Winn-Dixie, the award winning book by Kate Di Camillo will be read aloud to the K-5 children, followed by their discussion. It is an engaging story of Opal, the preacher’s daughter, and the big ugly suffering dog she names Winn-Dixie. The preacher taught her to help the less fortunate and clearly Winn-Dixie is that. Opal is lonely and missing her mother. Because of Winn-Dixie, she makes many friends. Because of Winn-Dixie, she lovingly learns about her absent mother; she learns to take action, to pray, and to forgive. All these themes are present in the humorous day-to-day adventures of Opal and beloved Winn-Dixie. The children will have a fun summer Sunday School experience and grow in their understanding of living the Christian life. Don't miss it. (If you might be interested in reading aloud to the children one Sunday, please contact Linda Morris)
