Social Justice/Outreach Recommendation

St. Jude’s own Mission Covenant calls on the parish community to:

Focus energy and resources to make a greater impact in social justice and outreach. We will build on our tradition of social justice and outreach, and encourage all parishioners to make service a priority. We will engage with the larger community to identify a small number of long-term, local service projects that are designed to address social issues, while respecting our existing local and global partnerships.

Through its Social Justice/Outreach meetings St. Jude’s seeks to identify programs where our few dollars make a meaningful difference. The Committee strives to support mission, increase social justice, and strengthen the greater parish community, by sponsoring parish missionaries, recruiting outreach volunteers, and directing parish funds to persons, programs and missions where we can make a telling difference.

All parishioners are welcome to attend the SJO meetings and participate in developing and supporting mission, volunteerism and engagement as we live out our baptismal covenant.

From the baptismal covenant, found on p. 304-5 of The Book of Common Prayer:

… to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself; strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being…
I will with God’s help.
